     The successful 27th Meeting of the International Traffic Medicine Association took place in Tokyo, Japan, from September 15 to 17. Professionals and researchers from all around the world—specializing in fields such as medicine, psychology, engineering, and traffic safety education—presented 60 studies.

     Luchemos por la Vida, represented by its President, María Cristina Isoba—member of the ITMA Board—shared the results of a study conducted by the association on "The increase in mortality among motorcyclists in Argentina and Latin America: data and countermeasures to reverse their predominance in fatalities and hospitalizations."

     The study examined global and regional data on motorcyclists’ mortality in Latin America and conducted over 3,500 direct observations of risky behaviors among this group in the City of Buenos Aires and three municipalities within the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area (AMBA, Buenos Aires Province). Additionally, random individual interviews were conducted to assess—from a traffic psychology perspective—the correlation between observed behaviors and the group's risk perception. Its ultimate goal is to present proposals to authorities and app-based companies to enhance rider safety and reduce morbidity and mortality among this vulnerable group.

     In addition to protecting vulnerable road users from impacts, other studies were presented on the assessment of driving skills, in-vehicle safety, infrastructure, and the environment, among other topics. It was a significant gathering to learn more about solutions to current and future challenges for Life on the road.
